On Tuesday 17 September, my mum died at the age of 86. Having been on end-of-life-care for a little over a year, the essential cause of her death was airway secretions. These can build up in the airways when a person is no longer able to cough and clear them. The result is the infamous "death rattle".
The funeral was held on 11 October on a thankfully sunny day. Just eight of us were there, but we ensured Mum was laid to rest in the best way possible. At the back of the hearse was a floral arrangement in the style of the flag of Spain. My sister did an amazing job of arranging everything.
The photo above is of my parents' wedding in 1969. Stood to the right of my mum is the legendary Welsh rockabilly and new-wave singer Dave Edmunds. Just a year later he would go to number one on the UK chart with I Hear You Knocking. Being the aspiring songwriter, my dad managed to achieve such connections. On the far right is my grandmother Winnie, who was 60 at the time. I knew her so little, sadly.
